Your hosts, Glenn and Wendy Cambage would like to share with you their beautiful 160 acres in the rural community of Julatten, encompassing private rainforest, tall eucalypt woodland, and native landscaped gardens.

Our two luxury retreats are perched on a hill in an open setting overlooking the rainforest and creek beyond, and surrounded by the awe-inspiring Mt Lewis mountain range in Julatten, at the northern tip of the Atherton Tablelands, and adjoinging the World Heritage listed Wet Tropics.
The spacious cottages, each accommodating 2 people and ideal for couples, are situated 50m apart and surrounded by a cooling tropical garden, adding to nature’s charms and your sense of well-being.
The private accommodation is very well appointed with modern conveniences and fitted throughout with custom-made Australian style furniture, built from North Queensland timbers. Artwork by renowned local landscape artist Louise Derry adds to the ambience. Every effort has been made to ensure your absolute comfort during your stay with us.
Sweetwater’s unique luxury accommodation is ideal for city breaks, weekends away, nature lovers, weddings, honeymoons, romantic getaways, bird-watchers, rest and relaxation, and creative pursuits for people in search of a little bit extra!

Accommodation consists of 2 x private self contained retreats each accommodating two people in king bed/king twin configuration with a luxury en-suite bathroom, cosy living area, spacious verandah and kitchen.

Luxurious king size bed with comfy duvets, (king twin configuration also available), lounge, coffee table, log fire, lcd tv, dvd/cd, clock radio, desk, tea and coffee facilities, fridge, iron and ironing board, picnic basket, hammock, timber floorboards throughout.
A spacious verandah adjoins the main living area with quality kitchen facilities including a 4 burner ceramic cook top, Weber bbq, dining table and chairs.
The en-suite bathroom includes a spa bath, a separate spacious indoor/outdoor rain head shower, and a hairdryer. Solar hot water system.
A Port-a-cot is available upon request.

50 square metres of covered area with dining/kitchen and bbq facility situated on the creek’s edge overlooking the platypus pond. Wander down to the creek and listen to the rush of water flow over the rocks. Watch for the abundant birdlife, spot our resident platypus and look out for the electric blue Ulysees butterfly. Watch the sun set over the mountains. Enjoy the beauty of the night sky, spot the milky-way and watch the moon come up while sitting around a warm fire at the outdoor fireplace. Simply enjoy a picnic or relaxing on the sun lounges down by the cool of the creek on a warm sunny day.
Rest, Relax, Rejuvenate!

Platypus Pond

Stroll down to the Platypus pond and take your place on the water’s edge. Have a paddle in our refreshing and rejuvenating spring- fed freshwater creek. Watch the birds swoop through the rainforest along the creek and dive down to feed off the surface of the water. Look out for the Buff Breasted Paradise Kingfisher during the summer months. Feast your eyes on the changing moods and colours of the natural canvas surrounding you.

Chill out down at the creek

Take your favourite book and string up your hammock on the water’s edge and set yourself up for a rare moment of self indulgence surrounded by nature’s symphony. After indulging in nature’s abundance away from everyday pressures, retreat to the privacy of your own lodge for a warm spa bath and a glass of wine on your verandah as you watch the sun set behind the mountains.

Included for your enjoyment:

Flowers, fresh local Tableland coffee, tea, biscuits, herbal teas, sugar, milk, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, spray oil, plain flour, salt, cracked black pepper, and a selection of herbs and spices.
Bathroom amenities are also provided for your convenience.
A variety of magazines, books, and dvd’s are also available for your personal use during your stay.

Wonderful bird-watching opportunities abound at Sweetwater with its variation in habitats over our 160 acres. Wander at will around the the properties walking tracks, through mountain rainforest, down to the creek, in the open grassland and woodland, and around the honey flora gardens surrounding the lodges.
Listen out for the Curlews with their haunting cries and the “falling bomb” sound made by our resident Lesser Sooty Owls at night time.
Ask your hosts to organise for a guided tour around Sweetwater and the local area with one of our leading local expert birders.

How to get to Sweetwater Lodge

From Cairns to Sweetwater Lodge via the coast road / Captain Cook Highway.

From Cairns International airport take the Captain Cook Highway North. Continue past the turn-off to Port Douglas north towards Mossman for approx 7 kms. Take the Mount Molloy turn-off to the left.
Sweetwater is approximately 24km from the Captain Cook Highway. Follow up the mountain range (approx 10 minutes drive) and continue for around another 10 minutes.
You will go over Bushy Creek, past a turning to the right called Sides Road, around a series of bends and into a straight.
Sweetwater is situated at the end of the straight on the right hand side, number 2472. The lodge is set back 700m from the main road – follow the driveway all the way in to reception. Please watch for our resident wildlife on the driveway.
If you go over Hunter’s Creek, you’ve gone too far!

From Cairns to Sweetwater Lodge via the inland way (via Mareeba).

From Cairns International airport take the Captain Cook Highway North for approximately 10 minutes. Take the turn off to Kuranda/Mareeba at a large roundabout taking care up the range (about 15 minutes to the top).
Continue past the turn off to Kuranda and on for approx 25 minutes to a T-intersection. Turn right taking you through the town of Mareeba and on to the small town of Mt. Molloy.
Travel through Mt Molloy, over a narrow bridge, (give way to oncoming traffic!) and turn right to Julatten (signposted Mossman). Sweetwater’s driveway is situated exactly 4km from this turn off just over Hunter’s Creek, the first driveway on the left hand side – Number 2472. The lodge is set back from the main road so follow the driveway 700m all the way in to reception. Please watch for our resident wildlife on the driveway.
