About Wildlife Experience For Cairns

Visiting Port Douglas and the surrounding tropical region gives visitors the opportunity to encounter some of the most unique and dangerous wildlife found in Australia.  Whether you want to cuddle a koala or spot a crocodile in the wild, there are many different wildlife parks and attractions near Port Douglas that make it possible.

The Wildlife Habitat

Located in Port Douglas, the Wildlife Habitat formerly known as the Rainforest Habitat is most famous for Breakfast with the birds.  While the birds wonder around freely, you are treated to a tropical buffet breakfast including local fruit, juices, pastries, cereals, breads and BBQ bacon and eggs.  Lunch with the Lorikeets is also a popular choice.

Daintree Wildlife Cruise

A variety of operators offer tours that give you the opportunity to take a Daintree River cruise amongst the 135 million year old World Heritage protected Daintree rainforest.  Keep a lookout for crocodiles that inhabit the waters, the highlight of the tour.  Other tropical wildlife is also spotted on the cruise including great-billed herons and kingfishers, flying fox, possums and tree kangaroos.

Cairns Tropical Zoo

Located at Palm Cove, a 30 minute drive from Port Douglas is the Cairns Tropical Zoo.  This is the best place to cuddle a koala, feed a kangaroo or hold a baby crocodile, with photo opportunities to capture the moment.  Other Australian wildlife at the zoo includes wallabies, wombats, dingoes, echidnas, cassowaries and crocodiles.  There are various shows and presentations throughout the day, including the popular crocodile feeding show.

Hartley's Crocodile Adventures

Also at Palm Cove is Hartley's Crocodile Adventures.  This award winning eco-attraction is considered one of the best places to see crocodiles up-close, with crocodile feeding and informative staff who share secrets about these amazing reptiles.

If you do not have a car, there are tours and shuttle transfers available to all the wildlife parks and attractions mentioned available from Port Douglas.
