About Moreton Island

About Moreton Island

Tangalooma is the Gateway to Moreton Island. Just a 75 minute ferry trip from Brisbane, Tangalooma Island Resort provides Brisbane’s closest access to the beautiful Moreton Island, home to amazing natural flora and fauna.

Moreton Island is the third largest sand island in the world and located only 40 kilometres north-east of Brisbane. The Island consists entirely of sand, apart from a small area of sandstone and rhyolite at Cape Moreton, which has built up over the past 400,000 years. It is also home to the highest coastal sand dune in the world, Mount Tempest, which at 285 metres provides 360 degrees of breath-taking views. Moreton Island is one of the least polluted and least disturbed coastal environments along the Queensland/New South Wales coast.

Once in a lifetime experience. A fantastic experience even if only watching. The feeding is really good. The eco-rangers explain everything. The dolphin feeding experience was very unique and unforgettable. Snorkelling off the pristine beach was brilliant.

Dolphin Feeding an absolute must. This was the second time I have done the dolphin feeding at Tangalooma, this time I took my 2 kids with us. The weather was quite windy and the waves a bit rougher than my last experience but the dolphin feeding is an awesome experience. We fed Sillouette, and she is a mother. My son aged 9 was so excited to feed the dolphins. The briefing before feeding was clear and concise and the staff were great company and had some good advice. Feeding the wild dolphins really is up to them if they come in so it is a real privilege. Highly recommend if you are in the area.
